Students, researchers and UniCredit colleagues came together at Fondazione Giangiacomo Feltrinelli in Milan as UniCredit Foundation celebrated the recipients of its 2025 scholarships, fellowships and research grants, reaffirming its commitment to developing talent through education, research and lifelong learning.
This year's Award Ceremony recognised 54 recipients from across Europe and beyond. In 2025, UniCredit Foundation invested approximately €4.5 million in scholarships, fellowships and research grants, supporting students, researchers and colleagues in pursuing outstanding academic and professional development opportunities.
Hosted by Silvia Cappellini, General Manager of UniCredit Foundation, the ceremony was attended by Giorgio Barba Navaretti, Vice Chairman of UniCredit Foundation, Tito Boeri, Chairman of Associazione Borsisti Marco Fanno, this year's award recipients and a large community of alumni, reflecting the lasting impact of the Foundation's programmes over the years.
One of the highlights of the evening was the keynote address by Professor Asim Khwaja, Director of the Center for International Development at Harvard Kennedy School, titled "From Poverty to Potential: Reimagining Progress and Development." His message reinforced the importance of investing in people and creating the conditions for talent to flourish through education, knowledge and opportunity.
Speaking on the sidelines of the Award Ceremony and building on the themes explored during his keynote address, Professor Asim Khwaja commented: "I was delighted to deliver the keynote address at the UniCredit Foundation Award Ceremony and celebrate the outstanding students, researchers, and employees being recognized. In my remarks, I emphasized the need to shift our focus from simply reducing poverty to realizing human potential. UniCredit Foundation's commitment to nurturing talent, advancing knowledge, and promoting inclusive education is a powerful example of how investing in people can expand opportunity and help individuals realize their full potential."
Alongside scholarships for students and research grants supporting cutting-edge work in economics, finance and education, the ceremony also celebrated 20 UniCredit colleagues selected to attend prestigious Summer School programmes at the London School of Economics, University College London and the Barcelona School of Economics. These opportunities reflect UniCredit Foundation's commitment to continuous learning and to supporting colleagues in expanding their expertise through some of Europe's leading academic institutions.
"Every scholarship, fellowship and research grant we award reflects our commitment to recognising and supporting talent through a rigorous, merit-based selection process. Our programmes are designed to ensure that outstanding students, researchers and colleagues can access opportunities based on excellence, regardless of their starting point. Through these initiatives and the Education Research Lab, we invest in people because we believe education remains one of the most powerful drivers of equal opportunity, social mobility and long-term, inclusive growth. Supporting talent means not only recognising excellence but also creating the conditions for individuals to develop their potential and generate a lasting, positive impact on their communities and society as a whole."
Silvia Cappellini, General Manager of UniCredit Foundation
