The UniCredit Art Collection is a living resource with treasures that reflect the Group's Pan-European identity. Among the most interesting personalities, Simone Pellegrini stands out, a contemporary Italian artist who explores the boundary between image and word, memory and matter.

2:00 min

The UniCredit Art Collection is one of the largest corporate collections in Europe, comprising tens of thousands of various assets, from ancient archaeological finds to classical and contemporary works of art, as a result of the artistic choices and passion for art that has always characterised UniCredit. Particular attention has been paid to promoting young and emerging artists from the countries in which our Group is present, increasing their presence in the Collection of contemporary art works.

We strive to make art part of life for wider public, so we asked some of the artists to explain what art is and what it means to them.

Born in Ancona in 1972, Simone Pellegrini trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Urbino, where he studied painting between 1996 and 2000. His artistic research has developed through a highly symbolic and layered visual language that brings together elements of archaeology, spirituality and writing. His works exist in a suspended dimension between medieval art, Art Brut and dreamlike visions, and are distinguished by a strong mystical and philosophical component.

“For me, art is a way of giving a certain continuation to misunderstandings; everything I do not know and everything I misunderstand has to do with the matter of creation. I believe that art is the quintessentially useless thing, and therefore it should not be didactic, it should not be pedagogical, it should not be accompanied by a narrative...” – Simone Pellegrini
