Meet Alexandra Mihalache
Anti Financial Crime Compliance, UniCredit Bank Austria
My UniCredit journey began in Romania in 2007, in the Payments and Operations area. Over the years, international environment and mobility program offered me valuable cross-department experiences and insights, fuelling both personal and professional growth.
Today, I am based in Austria, working in Compliance – a vital function in the financial industry that ensures adherence to regulatory and legal standards. My focus is on risks related to money laundering, fraud, and sanctions violations, where I collaborate across departments to improve processes, tools and communication, helping safeguard the Bank’s integrity and reputation.
What I enjoy the most about my job is connection with people – fostering collaboration and contributing to a culture of integrity and trust. I naturally build strong relationships, a skill shaped by my background in teaching, which taught me empathy, patience, adaptability, active listening – qualities I apply daily.
Beyond professional growth, one of the most rewarding aspects has been forming lasting friendships. Working internationally has its challenges - culture differences, language barrier, and regulatory nuances - but it’s enriched my perspective and expanded my global network.
Living and working abroad also complements my passion for travel. I’m drawn to the sea, the mountains and the scenic landscapes of the North.
Three words to describe me:
adaptable, reliable, communicative.
Three words to describe my job:
diligent, analytical, supportive.
Meet Luca Orfanò
Group Trade & Correspondent Banking, UniCredit Group
UniCredit and I met 6 years ago - by chance!
Although I hold a degree in Economics, I was quite unsure about which path to pursue, and banking wasn’t my obvious choice. I have always found myself at the intersection of economics and international relations – UniCredit, fortunately, offered me opportunity to explore both!
I currently work in Group Trade & Correspondent Banking as Client Relationship Manager in Italy.
My role involves promoting trade finance through our network of correspondent banks, helping our corporate clients navigate the often complex and unpredictable world of international trade.
I typically start my day speaking with client banks, mainly located in the Middle East, which are 1-2 hours ahead of us. The rest of my day is spent managing steady flow of e-mails and requests.
What I enjoy most is the international environment and the chance to interact with colleagues from diverse backgrounds and cultures. The multicultural perspectives and the challenges of working with very different counterparts make every day unique. Another aspect I truly value is the continuous learning—whether it’s the variety of requests, the diversity of people, or the ever-evolving challenges, it all creates the perfect mix for what I consider my dream job.
Outside of work, I enjoy reading, playing the piano, and spending time by the sea. I’m a passionate diver whenever I get the chance.
Three words to describe me:
patient, interested, friendly.
Three words to describe my job:
challenging, enjoying, interesting.
