UniCredit Foundation Celebrates 52 Exceptional Talents Across Europe
Monday 23 June 2025
On June 19, UniCredit Foundation hosted its annual Award Ceremony in Milan, recognising 52 outstanding students, researchers and UniCredit employees for their achievements in education and research. The event marked a key moment in the Foundation’s year-long commitment to nurturing talent, advancing knowledge and promoting inclusive education across Europe.
Andrea Orcel, UniCredit CEO and Chairman of UniCredit Foundation, joined the celebration alongside Prof. Ugo Panizza, Professor of International Economics at the Geneva Graduate Institute and former scholarship recipient, who delivered an inspiring keynote address.
In 2024 alone, UniCredit Foundation invested around €4 million to support high-potential individuals through scholarships, fellowships and research grants in the fields of economics and finance. This includes support for students at the start of their academic journey and for early-career researchers tackling key topics; dedicated efforts to bring back to Europe the brightest young economists currently working abroad; and continued learning opportunities for UniCredit colleagues at leading European universities.
This wide-ranging support reflects UniCredit Foundation’s strategic focus on fostering academic excellence and expanding inclusive access to quality education, both within and beyond the Group.
Silvia Cappellini, General Manager of UniCredit Foundation, commented:
“Education is one of the most powerful investments we can make, not just in society, but in our people. Through our Foundation, we aim to create opportunities that go beyond professional development, empowering individuals to reach their full potential.”
Prof. Panizza’s address echoed that message, recalling his own life-changing scholarship: “Scholarships are not just financial aid, they are a sign that someone believes in you. That belief can unlock confidence, ambition and purpose. I’m proud to see UniCredit Foundation investing in people this way, because the return on education is exponential, not just for individuals, but for society as a whole.”
By acknowledging exceptional talent and supporting promising research, UniCredit Foundation reaffirms its mission to build a more inclusive and empowered future for all.
