Scalo Farini and UniCredit: a new future is born.

1:00 min

UniCredit has announced that Herzog & de Meuron, one of the world’s most renowned architectural firms, will design its new headquarters in Milan. Located within the Scalo Farini district, this innovative project aims to serve as a catalyst for urban regeneration, contributing to Milan’s ongoing transformation.

The new campus will encompass state-of-the-art offices as well as green spaces, residential and social housing, and new city services. This development reflects UniCredit’s commitment to fostering a sustainable and inclusive model of social integration, aligned with contemporary urban transformation principles.

Designed by Herzog & de Meuron, a firm with an impressive legacy encompassing landmarks such as the Beijing National Stadium, Tate Modern in London, and Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie, the new headquarters will embody a synthesis of architectural precision and innovative experimentation. The design approach emphasises respect for the physical and cultural context of Scalo Farini, fostering a harmonious relationship between architecture, environment, and community.

This project is a pivotal component of the broader effort to revitalize Scalo Farini, a significant initiative in Europe dedicated to environmental sustainability and urban renewal. The development will proceed in tandem with the city’s urban regeneration plan.

Andrea Orcel, CEO of UniCredit, said:

“We are proud to collaborate with Herzog & de Meuron on the new UniCredit headquarters. As a bank driven by a fundamental purpose, to empower communities to progress, we are delighted that we have the opportunity to contribute to the regeneration of Scalo Farini in Milan. Employees of our new campus will enjoy working in a unique, sustainable, and welcoming campus with modern facilities and solutions. Our investment in Scalo Farini represents more than the opportunity to give back to our community, it is also the ability for us to invest in Italy and to put into tangible action our commitment to invest socially and the responsibility we have environmentally as we work to regenerate this area for our own people and beyond.”

Jacques Herzog, founder of Herzog & de Meuron, said:

“The UniCredit headquarters gives us the opportunity to continue our work in Milan, a city where we have been able to establish a meaningful architectural presence. It is of course also especially exciting for us to work for one of the greatest global banking institutions in Europe. The building will be an exploration in both ecological and social sustainability - a rejection of a closed, hermetic office tower towards an organic shape which allows the interiors and workspaces to be surrounded by gardens and trees, creating high quality working conditions throughout the building”.

UniCredit remains committed to creating lasting value for its communities, and this project exemplifies our dedication to sustainable development and innovative urban transformation.

What a snapshot of Scalo Farini...in the making!
