Four calls for scholarships, fellowships, research grants and awards to foster academic excellence across Europe
Milan, 9 September 2026 - UniCredit Foundation launches four new calls for scholarships, fellowships, research grants and academic awards, further strengthening its commitment to supporting talented students and researchers in the fields of economics and finance.
With a total investment of more than €1.9 million, the four initiatives will create new opportunities for students, early-career researchers and academic institutions, reinforcing UniCredit Foundation's commitment to advancing academic excellence and high-quality research across Europe.
The four initiatives include:
- 2026 PhD Scholarships in Economics in memory of Marco Fanno, Giovanna Crivelli and Fabrizio Saccomanni, supporting students enrolling in PhD programmes at internationally recognised universities;
- 2026 Top-Up Fanno & Foscolo Fellowships, helping universities and research institutes attract and retain outstanding early-career researchers through internationally competitive compensation packages;
- 2026 Modigliani Research Grant, supporting promising young researchers in economics and finance employed at European universities;
- The 13th Economic Job Market Best Paper Award, organised in collaboration with the European Economic Association, recognising outstanding research presented by young economists entering the international academic job market.
Building on a long-standing tradition of supporting academic excellence, UniCredit Foundation continues to invest in the next generation of economists and researchers. The 17th edition of the Modigliani Research Grant and the 13th edition of the Economic Job Market Best Paper Award, together with the scholarships dedicated to Marco Fanno, Giovanna Crivelli and Fabrizio Saccomanni, reflect the Foundation's enduring commitment to fostering talent and advancing economic research across Europe.

Applications are open for:
- 10 PhD Scholarships in Economics in memory of Marco Fanno, Giovanna Crivelli and Fabrizio Saccomanni (application deadline: 2 November 2026);
- 7 Top-Up Fanno & Foscolo Fellowships for university departments and research institutes in countries where UniCredit Group operates (deadline: 30 October 2026);
- 4 Modigliani Research Grants for outstanding early-career researchers employed at European universities (deadline: 16 October 2026);
- 5 Economic Job Market Best Paper Awards, promoted in collaboration with the European Economic Association (deadline: 12 October 2026).
