Fitch affirms ratings following the offer on Commerzbank and sees potential for UniCredit to be rated two notches above the sovereign

 

The rating agency Fitch Ratings has today affirmed UniCredit SpA's ratings and outlook following the offer on Commerzbank. The Long-Term Issuer Default Rating has been affirmed at 'A-', while the outlook remains Stable. The Short-Term Issuer Default Rating remains at 'F2' and the Long-Term Deposit Rating has been confirmed at 'A+'.

 

The rating agency has stated that a successful takeover of Commerzbank could have positive rating implications for the Group, indicating the potential for UniCredit SpA to be rated two notches above the Italian sovereign, i.e. an additional notch higher than currently.
