The Award Ceremony is becoming an increasingly important annual appointment in the life of the Foundation.
It is not just the moment where the winners are awarded with scholarships and research grants that have been assigned in the previous year, it is also the occasion where the members of the Board of Directors and the Board of Auditors have the opportunity to meet the members of the Scientific Committee, the Scientific Consultants, the winners of the new competitions and the winners of previous years' competition which, more and more numerous, want to show their support to the Foundation and to the new "entrants".
Over the years, the Awards Ceremony has been introduced by top-level speakers from the academic and business world, including the Presidents of UniCredit Group Dieter Rampl, Giuseppe Vita and Fabrizio Saccomanni and Professors Francesco Giavazzi, Michele Salvati, Alberto Alesina, Mario Monti and Luigi Zingales.
June 3, 2019 - UniCredit Foundation has awarded over 100 students and researchers and three University Departments of Economics, winning results of calls launched in 2018. The amount of prizes awarded this year has exceeded € 1.6 million, with an increase over 2017 of more than 60%, both in terms of awarded students and of distributed prizes.
The winners are students in economic and financial disciplines, enrolled at universities and research institutes active in the countries included in the UniCredit's geographical perimeter
The scholarships and fellowships launched by the Foundation in 2018 have covered various areas, including study support and student mobility abroad. This is the case of the Crivelli and Marco Fanno Scholarships, aimed at supporting doctoral studies at universities of excellence (5 scholarships of 65,000 euros for PhD at Harvard, MIT, Stanford, Princeton, Chicago).
The Foundation then continues its engagement in attracting and keep the best young economists in the countries in which the Group operates. In 2018 over € 500,000 were invested in this direction. In this context it is worth to mention:
· The Fellowship directly addressed to University Departments committed to attracting talent from abroad, such as the Foscolo Europe Top-up Fellowship competition, in its fourth edition, and won in 2018 by the University's CSEF (Center for Studies in Economics and Finance) Federico II of Naples and the Department of Economics of the Ca 'Foscari University of Venice;
· and the new "Marco Fanno Fellowship" call launched in 2018 for its first edition and won by the Department of Economics of the University of Bologna.
The two researchers who will return this year thanks to the Top-Up fellowship are: Elia Sartori, a graduate in Bocconi University and PhD at Princeton, who will return to Italy and go to the Federico II of Naples - CSEF and Marco Di Cataldo, University of Bologna degree, PhD at LSE, which will return to Italy and will go to Ca' Foscari.
Maurizio Beretta, Chairman of UniCredit Foundation and Professor Giorgio Barba Navaretti, Chairman of the Marco Fanno Fellowship Association, introduced the works that were held at the UniCredit Tower in Milan, which also saw the participation of Professor Francesco Giavazzi of Bocconi University with a lectio magistralis on the topic "Austerity: When It Works and When It Doesn't".
Nicola Saldutti from Corriere della Sera moderated a Q&A session. The works were closed by Professor Franco Bruni, Vice Chairman of UniCredit Foundation, who announced the Foundation Activity Plan for 2019 in the field of Support for Study and Research, for which scholarships are expected to be launched for almost € 2,0 million euro for over 180 students and researchers, marking a further significant growth in the Foundation's activity.
On 6 June 2018 the traditional Awards Ceremony took place in the UniCredit Tower Hall in Milan, where awards were presented to the many winners of the competitions launched by UniCredit Foundation in 2017.
Fabrizio Saccomanni, Chairman of UniCredit, Maurizio Beretta, Chairman of UniCredit Foundation, Franco Bruni, Chairman of the Scientific Committee and Giorgio Barba Navaretti, Chairman of the Marco Fanno Fellowship Association took to the stage.
Chairman Saccomanni opened the ceremony with a talk on "Transforming the Business Model: a choice that banks can no longer postpone".
He proposed a series of suggestions, which were of great interest to the current and, more importantly, the future of the banking system, not only in Italy.
Giannantonio De Roni, Secretary General of the Foundation, called the winners to the stage, announcing their profiles and details of their individual initiatives.
Prof. Barba Navaretti awarded the winners of the Marco Fanno Scholarship and the Franco Modigliani Research Awards. Maurizio Beretta awarded the winners of the Crivelli Europe Scholarships. Prof. Franco Bruni awarded the winners of the US PhD Scholarship and the winners of the Summer Schools and UniCredit Chairman, Fabrizio Saccomanni awarded the winners of the Top-Up Foscolo fellowship, the Summer School for UniCredit employees and the winner of the 'UniCredit Best Paper Award.
19 June 2017 - The UniCredit & Universities Awards Ceremony, in the presence of the President of the Foundation Maurizio Beretta and the Chairman of the Scientific Committee Franco Bruni, took place in the Tower Hall at the UniCredit headquarters in Milan.
The event was attended by Giuseppe Vita, Chairman of UniCredit, Giorgio Barba Navaretti, President of the Marco Fanno Association, and Luigi Zingales, professor at the University of Chicago, as well as many deans and professors from some of the most prestigious international universities. Professor Zingales presented a lecture on the topic "The Origins of Italian NPLs".
During the ceremony, Secretary General of the UniCredit & Universities Foundation Giannantonio de Roni invited every winner onstage to receive their award.
The ceremony honored 76 young students and researchers.

June 8, 2016 - In the presence of the President of the Foundation Paolo Cornetta and the Chairman of the Scientific Committee Franco Bruni, the UniCredit & Universities Award Ceremony took place with the purpose of awarding the winners of the competitions launched in 2015 by UniCredit & Universities.
The event was attended by Giuseppe Vita, Chairman of UniCredit, Giorgio Barba Navaretti, President of the Marco Fanno Association, and Alberto Alesina, professor at Harvard University, as well as many Deans and Professors of the most prestigious international universities.
The ceremony honored 115 young students and researchers and was preceded by a discussion led by Professor Alesina on the future European Union - "What is happening to the European Union?".
15 July 2015 - The Award Ceremony for the winners of competitions launched in 2014 took place on June 3, 2015 in the presence of the Chairman of the Foundation, Paolo Cornetta, the President of the Marco Fanno Association, Michele Salvati and the President of the Scientific Committee, Franco Bruni.
At the event, the speakers were Giuseppe Vita, President of UniCredit, Federico Ghizzoni and Roberto Nicastro, CEO and General Manager of UniCredit, Mario Monti, Chairman of the board of the Bocconi University, Mario Melazzini, Councillor for Industry, Research and Innovation of the Lomardy Region, among other respected speakers and professors from the most prestigious international universities.
During the event, the following winners of last year's competitions received awards: Riccardo Cioffi and Michele Fornino received the Marco Fanno Scholarship; Benedetta Brioschi and Cavit Baran received the Crivelli Europe Scholarship; Anton Popov received the US PhD Scholarship.
The winners of the Masterscholarships: Robert Lachmeyer, Federico Morescalchi, Yana Myachenkova, Viola Salvestrini and Mara Solomon. Three Modigliani Research Grants were awarded to Stefania Bortolotti, Anna Gumpert and Massimiliano G. Onorato.
Kirill Shaknov won the Foscolo Europe scholarship. Colleagues Ivan Luciano Danesi and Matteo Formenti won the UniCredit Best Paper Award. 15 July 2014 - The Award Ceremony for the winners of competitions launched in 2013 took place on 20 June 2014 in the presence of the Chairman of the Foundation, Dieter Rampl, the President of the Marco Fanno Association, Michele Salvati and the President of the Scientific Committee, Franco Bruni.
During the event, the following winners of last year's competitions received awards: Martina Fazio and Tommaso Bondi received the Marco Fanno Scholarship; Martina Zanella and Mert Demirer received the Crivelli Europe Scholarship; Alper Inecik received the US PhD Scholarship. Filippo D'Arcangelo, Christian Decker, Cung Truong Hoang, Markus Parlasca and Sebastian Rast received Masterscholarships.
Modigliani Research Grants were awarded to Eva Hoppe-Fischer, Fabio Landini and Thomas Stoeckl. Matthias Kehrig won the Foscolo Europe Fellowship. Silvia Galli, Thomas Havranek and Gerardo Manzo won the Best PhD Thesis Award. Present at the event, Selim Gulesci won the UWIN Best Paper Award. Manuela Pedio won the UniCredit Best Paper Award.
Anja Albrizio, Silvia Cappelli, Stefano Chiappo, Martina Di Giammartino, Riccardo Farina, Nadezhda Krasavina, Saverio Laviola, Maria Carla Lostrangio, Davide Pessina, Serena Ruffinelli, Leonardo Siciliano, Enrica Sut and Marco Verico were awarded the UniCredit Study Abroad Exchange Programme prize and were present at the ceremony.
Fabio Cosio, Federico Fanin, Federico Ferrario, Julia Mihaylova, Enrico Nano, Norbert Scepan, Valerio Sperandeo and Cosmina Uritoiu won the first UniCredit Stage-Abroad Exchange Programme and were present at the ceremony. Marco Dominici was also present at the ceremony and won the first Be Stage-Abroad competition.
20 June 2013 - On 3 June 2013, the Chairman of the Foundation, Dieter Rampl, personally congratulated the winning students and researchers of the competitions launched by UniCredit & Universities in 2012. The winners were honoured during an official ceremony at the Aula Magna of UniCredit in Milan.
The event was attended by prof. Franco Bruni, chairman of the foundation's scientific committee, and prof. Michele Salvati, chairman of the Associazione Borsisti Marco Fanno, who introduced the awards ceremony with a speech entitled "For a progressive Eurozone politics. The tasks of national and European authorities". Several professors from Italian and international universities attended the ceremony.
46 winners received awards: Giulia Bovini and Alberto Polo, winners of the Marco Fanno Scholarship; Ahmet Arda Gitmez for the Crivelli Europe Scholarship; Vira Semenova for the US PhD Scholarship. Niclas Moneke, Stefan Lautenbacher, Hanna Niczyporuk and Natalia Kovaleva are the winners of the Masterscholarship. Sebastian Ebert, Iris Kesternich and Paolo Pinotti, winners the three Post-Doc Research Grant . Tommaso Oliviero is the winner of the Foscolo Europe Fellowship; Mauro Bernardi for the Carlo Giannini Fellowship. Domenico Massaro and Toomas Hinnosaar are the winners of Best PhD Thesis Award; Alessandra Voena, Anja Prummer and Ilse Lindenlaub, winners of UWIN Best Paper Award. Bülent Tekçe and Marco Geidosch are the two UniCredit employees, winners of the UniCredit Best Paper Award. The winners of the UniCredit Study Abroad Exchange Programme, present at the awards ceremony were: Cesare Candeo, Fabio Cosio, Manuela Di Bernardo, Matjas Ferluga, Michela Ruggieri, Sveva Federica Semi, Elizaveta Shashkova. Laura Illia is the winner of the Business School Research Project Funding.
