UniCredit appoints Alicja Kornasiewicz as Head of the newly established Emerging Europe" Area of the Markets & Investment Banking Division"

UniCredit today announced that Alicja Kornasiewicz has been appointed as Head of the newly established area "Emerging Europe" within UniCredit's Markets & Investment Banking Division (MIB), effective immediately. The area includes all the countries in the CEE and Poland Divisions (1) except Turkey, Russia and Kazakhstan, whose MIB Heads will continue to report to the Head of the MIB Division. The Head of the area is assigned managerial responsibility for all MIB activities related to Emerging Europe countries. The creation of this area within MIB reflects the strategic focus on Emerging Europe for UniCredit Group. It will further enhance the division's ability to deliver core products and solutions expertise to UniCredit Group's client franchise.

In her new function, Alicja will become a member of the Executive Committee of UniCredit MIB and will report directly to Edoardo Spezzotti, Head of the Markets & Investment Banking Division. Commenting on the appointment, Edoardo Spezzotti said: "The new Emerging Europe area underscores our commitment to continue to expand our franchise in Eastern Europe. Alicja has considerable knowledge of the growing CEE markets which will be a valuable asset in further strengthening UniCredit's leading position in this strategically important region."

Alicja has been responsible up to now for the markets and investment banking activities of UniCredit MIB in Poland. She joined UniCredit CAIB (former Creditanstalt Investment Banking) in October 2000. Prior to that she served as Secretary of State in the Ministry of the Treasury (1997 to 2000). From 1993 to 1997 Alicja worked for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development as a Senior Banker in London and later as a Representative in Poland, where she managed the Warsaw office. From 1973 to 1993 she held various posts in the private and public sector. Alicja served as a Member of Parliament in Poland's first free elections.
