At a press conference at the Teatro alla Scala on May 30, the Filarmonica della Scala announced its 2016-17 Concert Season.
Marking the Filarmonica's 35th anniversary, Chairman of the Filarmonica Federico Ghizzoni, Artistic Director Ernesto Schiavi and Principal Conductor Riccardo Chailly all attended the presentation.
The new Season will feature some of the world's best-loved symphonic music along with major contemporary compositions.
Other initiatives that will be run by the Filarmonica during the season will include a mix of new programs and old favorites, including:
• Open rehearsals, which make music more accessible to the public, offering people an opportunity to purchase specially priced tickets to five different orchestra rehearsals. With the support of the UniCredit Foundation, the proceeds from these ticket sales are donated to select non-profit organizations in the Milan area
• Sound, Music!, a program developed by the Filarmonica for primary school children
• Scholarships for young musicians, which will be given to three graduates from Italian conservatories
These initiatives are part of the Open Filarmonica project, which is being developed with the support of UniCredit, the Filarmonica's Main Partner. These two institutions share a common goal, which they have been working towards together for many years: to make music available to a wider audience.
