UniCredit Foundation, Alternative Sociale Association and UniCredit Ţiriac Bank presented the second stage of the "Migrations - Romania: A Better Life for Elders!" project, in Bucharest, last Thursday, May 19, 2011.

The project second stage furthers the efforts of the involved partners - Alternative Sociale Association, UniCredit Foundation and UniCredit Ţiriac Bank - to contrast the negative effects of migration on the lives of the relatives of those who have left abroad to work, it will be funded by UniCredit Foundation with €158,000.

The direct beneficiaries will be 400 elders from Iaşi county - in the North-east of the country - as well as their families, the local communities, the local institutions of Iaşi, Vaslui, and Botoşani counties, that provide social services and the central institutions of Romania.

During the first stage of the project, 1,240 persons from Iaşi county (657 children and 583 elders) have benefited from psychological assistance, legal counselling and financial support. This stage ran for 24 months and was financed with €480,000 by UniCredit Foundation.

All these initiatives are part of the Migrations Program initiated by UniCredit Foundation to raise awareness with respect to migration, acknowledging it as one of the most pressing contemporary issues.
