UniCredit and Consumer Associations working together to increase customer financial education

The financial education pilot project launched last June in 10 UniCredit branches by the Divisions Corporate Sustainability and Retail Customer Satisfaction Italy in collaboration with the Consumer Associations has been included as best practice in the European publication on Financial Education, edited by Eurofinas (European Federation of Finance House Associations).


The European publication on Financial Education draws together the main activities carried out by the credit industry on financial education in Europe. As indicated in the introduction by DG Sanco's Director General, the credit industry "should continue to work on informing their costumers".


It is against this background and the positive results of the first round of meetings that two more rounds of Financial Education meetings in the branches have been planned in order to increase customer awareness of banking and financial services by informing customers directly in the branches.


The second round of meetings were held in 10 UniCredit branches on 29th October. About 500 customers/consumers took part in the initiative, demonstrating great interest in the issues analyzed by the Consumer Association experts and branch managers:


  • Internet and electronic payments: how to operate safely
  • Credit cards and ATM cards: a correct and safe use


The meetings took place in selected Group branches where Consumer Associations experts provide Information Services every Tuesday and Thursday morning: UniCredit Banca di Roma Anzio Piazza Pia; UniCredit Banca di Roma Aprilia Piazza Roma; UniCredit Banca di Roma Napoli Bovio; UniCredit Banca di Roma Lecce Foscarini; UniCredit Banca di Roma Foggia Giordano; Banco di Sicilia Catania Corso Sicilia A; Banco di Sicilia Castelvetrano; Banco di Sicilia Agrigento Atenea; Banco di Sicilia Palermo Viale Strasburgo C; Banco di Sicilia Messina Garibaldi A.


The Information Services form part of the "Noi&UniCredit" Project that was launched in July 2008 with the signature of the Framework Agreement with 12 Consumer Associations.


The third round of meetings is being planned in the first quarter of 2010.
