UniCredit takes the field next to AIRC to win in the research

The new micro site of the UniCredit Group & AIRC partnership is online. This micro site will give visibility to our collaboration with AIRC - the Italian Association for Cancer Research -, started in 2001, which saw our Group fully committed in supporting cancer research.

UniCredit Group shares and supports since years the strategy of AIRC, in which the talents' promotion and the investments in forefront technologies play a key role for the research development.

My First AIRC Grant is a three-year grant that for the period 2009-2011, ensures a financial support to young scientists, encouraging the most promising minds to work on an own innovative research project.

The AIRC and the UniCredit Group support a new generation composed by brilliant researchers, allowing the new graduates to obtain the best education in Italy and, in a second moment, abroad. After this period of intense specialization they make the homecoming for the most promising researchers easier in order to bring back to Italy the experience they acquired.

Thanks to the extraordinary economic support of its companies and to the mobilization of the network of its branches, the UniCredit Group has already allowed 11 young researchers to carry on with their own research project. Some examples are represented by Marilena Iorio (National tumor institute in Milan) who studies the involvement of the MicroRNAs in connection with the breast cancer; Piergiorgio Modena (National Cancer Institute in Aviano) who is carrying on a study regarding the control of the gene expression; Massimo Ammirante (University in Salerno) who studies the metastasis progression; Lucia Altucci (Second University in Naples) who commits herself to defeating the acute myeloid leukemia.

Besides them there are other seven researchers. The team is now ready to take the field next to AIRC to win in the research.
