MAMbo, Bologna: the exhibition "Dino Gavina: Lampi di Design" from September 23, 2010
Dino Gavina: Lampi di Design, opens on September 23, 2010, at MAMbo, the Modern Art Museum of Bologna. This year the museum, a UniCredit cultural partner, has been exploring a rich theme they have entitled "Visual Culture and After," an examination of the intersections between contrasting artistic languages. This exhibition falls under that aegis.
The show's thematic approach enables the public to investigate the intellectual and commercial path traversed by the late Dino Gavina. Although not himself a designer, Gavina is frequently cited as the father of contemporary Italian design. He has been credited with initiating the propagation of avant-garde principles on an industrial scale.
Gavina's achievements are visible in the work of the many famous artists, designers and architects who collaborated with him, including Lucio Fontana, Marcel Duchamp, Man Ray, Sebastian Matta, the Castiglioni brothers, Marcel Breuer, Carlo and Tobia Scarpa, Kazuhide Takahama and Luigi Caccia Dominioni.
The show is accompanied by an extensive program of public events, Gavina.NAVIGA. Many of the events involve Gavina's friends and colleagues, who will participate in discussions of his unique relationship to the world of avant-garde design.
The exhibition will run from September 23 to December 26, 2010.
