Filarmonica della Scala and UniCredit Group: Opening of the 2009/2010 Season
The 2009/2010 Concert Season of the Filarmonica della Scala will begin November 7. UniCredit Group has been working with the Filarmonica della Scala for nine years as a major partner and has been a part of a number of significant events in the history of the orchestra. It has also promoted initiatives designed to engage the Group's employees and the public at large.
The opening concert will be conducted by Maestro Antonio Pappano, music director of London's Royal Opera and of the orchestra of Rome's Accademia di Santa Cecilia.
The evening's program will include Glinka's overture to Ruslan and Ludmila, Prokofiev's Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No. 3 and Rachmaninov's Symphony No. 2. Yuja Wang, and the 22-year-old talented Chinese pianist will perform.
The 28th season of the Filarmonica della Scala will include its one thousandth concert, as well as a tour of Asia in connection with Expo 2010 in Shanghai.
As usual, the podium will host many of the most important conductors on the international music scene. Three conductors will debut with the Filarmonica this year - Antonio Pappano, Christian Eschenbach and Esa-Pekka Salonen. Also appearing will be Daniel Barenboim, Myung-Whun Chung, Daniele Gatti, Semyon Bychkov, Zubin Mehta and Dennis Russell Davies.
