October 2009
Spazio Milano, Milan

On Saturday, October 3, 2009, the new season of exhibitions begins at Spazio Milano, the multifunctional space within the UniCredit Banca branch on Piazza Cordusio; the venue, created in 2007, is dedicated to the promotion of art, culture and community involvement.

Going on display is a solo exhibition by Claudia Losi, entitled STRIP MAPS: Claudia Losi, Look and Experience.  Claudia Losi is one of many major artists supported by UniCredit & Art.  Through commissions and acquisitions, several of her works have become part of the Group's art collection, including her entire Celacanti series, composed of large square sections of quilted fabric, embroidered by hand with the lightest of designs, as if to simulate a coverlet (2006).

The opening is taking place in conjunction with two more important events in which UniCredit Group is participating:

- The eighth edition of "Invito a Palazzo," promoted by ABI, the Italian Banking Association, which opens historic bank offices to the public for a day, including the Palazzo Cordusio, which houses the UniCredit Banca flagship branch;

"Giornata del Contemporaneo," an art initiative supported by UniCredit Group from its inception in 2003, involving approximately one thousand cultural institutions in AMACI, the Association of Italian Contemporary Art Museums.

For the Losi exhibition, the interior of the Cordusio branch will be transformed through a special presentation of Malerbe, an interactive performance project.  With the active participation of visitors to the branch, more than 3,000 colored Post-it® notes will be distributed through the site like blades of grass.  In addition to Malerbe, there will be guided tours and panel discussions on October 3.

11:00 am, Dialogue on Contemporary Art and its Context: A panel discussion led by Catterina Seia (Head of the UniCredit & Art Project), with Monica Poggio (Head of the Corporate Culture Department), Jacqueline Ceresoli (art critic), and the artist and the curator of the exhibition.

3:00 pm, Dialogue on Contemporary Art and its Context: A panel discussion led by Catterina Seia, with Lisa Parola (curator at a.titolo in Turin), Gabi Scardi (curator and art critic), and the artist and the curator of the exhibition.

Guided tours require reservations and will be held at 10:00 am, 10:30 am, 12:00 noon, 12:30 pm, 1:00 pm, 1:30 pm, 2:30 pm, 4:00 pm, 4:30 pm, 5:00 pm, 5:30 pm, 6:00 pm and 6:30 pm.  Each tour will last about 30 minutes.

Reservations for the events on October 3 may be made by telephone or email (tel. 011.5627396,  You may also register on the day itself, directly at the branch, subject to availability.

For the first time in the history of Spazio Milano, an artist has been asked to create a branch-wide, site-specific project that transforms the everyday experience and reality of the facility.  The phrase "strip maps" is intended to evoke every different category of descriptive map and the radically different types of data they record - from the geographical (e.g., concrete and tangible routes) to more heterogeneous and contingent phenomena (e.g., places worth visiting, special-purpose facilities).  The "concrete" routes as defined by the everyday activities of the branch are overlaid with emotional trajectories.  This approach is a common thread that runs through much of the artist's work.  It draws us away from our ordinary perception of the world and introduces unexpected and unconventional discontinuities.

In addition to a selection of works never before exhibited in Milan, the artist will also present an exclusive preview of a video produced by UniCredit Group together with a number of works that have been incorporated into the UniCredit Group art collection in the past five years.

The exhibition will also feature a bilingual printed program (Italian/English) with contributions from both the curator and the artist, produced by Mousse Publishing.
