"In the Shape of a Rose". Works By Maria Pettinaroli at Spazio Milano
Beginning April 20, visitors can enjoy the work of Maria Pettinaroli, a young Milanese artist, at Spazio Milano, the exhibition space at UniCredit Banca on Piazza Cordusio. The exhibition contains 30 of her pieces, all based on images of roses, and is open every day from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm.
The show is part of UniCredit Group's ongoing support for "Milano Creativa" - the creative life of Milan. It is being held in parallel with two more events at Spazio Milano addressing international dialogues and the creative expressions of the Group's employees.
The works were born from the artist's passion for processing and manipulating various kinds of paper. The starting point for her creative process is thus the paper itself, in which the artist chooses the texture of her roses. She models the material through a range of techniques that make each work unique and enable viewers to see the poetry of the object as if they were standing in front of the real thing. The roses are both made of paper and found in the paper, because the flower itself is only referenced via an abstract spiral or through the impression of rose petals trailing behind one another. The title of the show, "In the Shape of a Rose", alludes to the dual nature of representation and interpretation that Pettinaroli's work presents to its viewers.
The show is accompanied by a catalogue published by Skira. In the preface, Walter Guadagnini highlights the richness of these works, which, "by means of a powerful overlap between the subject of the work and the work itself, assume an ever-increasing physicality, a sense of fragility, and a presence both the sculptural and pictorial, without ever failing to illuminate their own essential nature".
Maria Pettinaroli herself will be present to interact with the public every Wednesday during the show (April 22 and 29, as well as May 6 and 13, from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm).
