Site-specific project by the American artist, for her first solo show in an Italian museum

With Trisha Donnelly's project, MAMbo - Museo d'Arte Moderna, Bologna, has completed a process of reflection and exploration of the identity and function of a contemporary art museum.
Initiated in 2006, with the cycle titled "Coming Soon MAMbo More Museum Less Exhibitions", the project was devised by Gianfranco Maraniello and Andrea Viliani in order to transfer the heritage of experienced developed by the Galleria d'Arte Moderna to the new building at the converted Forno del Pane (bakery), exploiting the occasion of the physical transfer of the Institution in order to examine the museum from within, reinventing it and changing its overall approach, starting from the view of the artists themselves.

Trisha Donnelly's project was supervised during its successive stages of creation and development by Andrea Viliani, whose term as director of MAMbo is coming to an end, as he was recently designated Director of the Galleria Civica - Centre for Contemporary Research, in Trento. The exhibition by the American artist, her first solo show in an Italian museum, represents a critical observation of the way in which a museum and its spaces are used, and it offers an example of direct intervention on the methods used to communicate an exhibition event.

For MAMbo, Donnelly created a comprehensive and site-specific project, with premiere presentations of original works. The artist utilizes video, drawing, photography, installations, audio works and performance in order to generate new enchantment in everyday acts, creating unexpected situations, and exploring the possible intersections between sensorial perception and imagination. Donnelly is an artist who cannot be encapsulated by means of standard definitions and preconceived categorization.

Trisha Donnelly was born in San Francisco, where she lives and works. For ten years she has been exhibiting her works, which include photography, texts, drawings, audio and video material. She has had solo shows in various European and American institutions. Her works have also been presented in important reviews.
