Financial Inclusion for Migrants: A Win-Win Situation?

  • 04

March 2009
Brussels, Bibliothèque Solvay
Save

The seminar aims to stimulate a lively debate surrounding the key issue of financial inclusion for migrants. While migrants are one of the population groups most likely to be financially, and thus socially excluded, it is crucial not to let the current financial scenario overshadow the importance of developing effective solutions which provide for real long-term access to financial services for them.

The seminar aims to shed light on a key, albeit little discussed, aspect of the concept of "active inclusion" with a view to the European Year of combating poverty and social exclusion in 2010. It builds on the recent Commission focus on financial inclusion and education as well as the European Parliament's work on migration, integration, and financial education.

Centered on the contributions of high-level EU and international speakers from Member State governments, migration experts and European institutions, the discussion will develop in a "talk show" format and will be closed by Internal Market and Services Commissioner Charlie McCreevy.
