Rovereto (Trento)

The exhibition at MART in Rovereto entitled "Schiele, Klimt, Kokoschka e gli amici viennesi" presents more than 120 works from Österreichische Galerie Belvedere in Vienna and other prestigious Austrian and German museums , including paintings, drawings and sculptures, many of which have never been shown in Italy, illustrating the life and work of Egon Schiele (1890 - 1918), one of the most famous exponents of Expressionist painting.

An important opportunity to investigate further the pictorial evolution of Egon Schiele, as well as to understand the cultural context of early 20th-century Vienna by way of the works of a group of artists who, with Schiele, made such a vital contribution to modern art.

The cultural environment in which the young Schiele lived and worked, presented in this exhibition, provides a new look at his work, suggesting interesting comparisons and juxtapositions with the artistic production of his contemporaries

His friends, avantgarde artists like Gustav Klimt, Oskar Kokoschka, Anton Faistauer, Anton Kolig, Carl Moll, Koloman Moser, Max Oppenheimer and Anton Peschka, accompanied him along the artistic path which, from the Jugendstil, led to Schiele's opening himself to Viennese Expressionism.

The MART show culminates in a section dedicated to the 49th Vienna Secession show in March of 1918, when Schiele, just a few months before dying of Spanish flu, achieved a resounding critical success.
