Saving Children - Medicine at the Service of Peace

The "Saving Children - Medicine at the Service of Peace" project, in collaboration with the Peres Center for Peace, an independent non-governmental organisation founded by Nobel prize winner Shimon Peres and with the support of foreign and Italian medical associations, was created to develop a direct programme that would identify, diagnose and provide medical care to Palestinian children in Israeli hospitals and rehabilitation clinics.

Over the past two years more than 1,900 children have been helped thanks to this important initiative: 450 received open heart surgery, 50 have undergone brain surgery or complex orthopaedic interventions, around 40 have received bone marrow transplants, and more than 1,100 were treated for other serious illnesses.

The UniCredit Group, ever attentive to social concerns, as reflected in the activities and initiatives of the Unidea Foundation, has chosen to support this important project, asking the help of all its employees in the realisation and publication of the book, Daddy Works at the Bank.

The volume contains a selection of more than 2,000 drawings by the children of the Group's workforce, fruit of the "Give the Gift of Art" phase of the "Kids' Bank" initiative, and was created with the aim of collecting funds for the Saving Children project.

The idea of involving kids in a solidarity initiative by contributing their creativity has met with an even more positive response than could have been hoped for, a demonstration of how everyone's contribution is important in achieving goals which might at first seem unreachable: in this case, a group of children, using their imagination alone, helped us support "Saving Children".
