Carlo Mollino at GAM and Castello di Rivoli
From September 20, 2006 to January 7, 2007, the Castello di Rivoli and GAM (Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art of Torino) will dedicate a special exhibition to the architect Carlo Mollino, one of the most important figures in Italian culture.
Castello di Rivoli Contemporary Art Museum
Mollino's passion for photography is the core of the exhibition installed on the third floor of the Castello di Rivoli, a selection that includes works never seen in public from various international collections and the Museo Casa Mollino.
The photography of the Torinese architect encompasses photomontages of architecture, interiors for trade magazines, works in black and white with a surrealist flavour, photos on skiing technique, Polaroids and female portraits shot from the 1970s until the artist's death.
GAM Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art of Torino
The exhibition at the GAM offers a broad panorama of Mollino's polyvalent art, evoking its spirit, poetics and central themes. On display are some of his one-off furniture designs, such as the table for the Orengo House, on loan from the Brooklyn Museum in New York, and a splendid desk from the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
The exhibition also presents works from American and European private collections, including that of the Swiss gallerist Bruno Bischofberger as well as a selection of the architect's famous drawings, some drawn with both hands.
