Artissima, Turin's annual International Contemporary Art Fair which is now in its twelfth year, is set to open on 11th November 2005. The fair has carved out a special place for itself among similar European events, due to the high quality of the exhibitions and events on its calendar, as well as its special interest in the latest trends.
In particular, the "Present Future" section will focus on young up-and-coming artists (under 40); their projects, created especially for the fair and selected by the international board of curators, will be presented in a monographic exhibition. Meanwhile, the "New Entries" section will be dedicated to young avant-garde galleries (which have been established since the year 2000 and have never taken part in Artissima), selected by the Fair's Advisory Committee as being particularly active in the field of artistic experimentation. Large works, selected by the Artissima Selection Committee from those submitted by the 150 international galleries taking part, will form the "Constellations" section.
The exhibitions will also be enriched by a cultural programme that has been put together by the Selection Committee and will include a series of conferences on major themes in contemporary art, which will be attended by some of the most respected figures in the sector.
As in previous years, over 200 of the best-known international collectors will be invited to take part in a programme involving preview visits to the Fair, meetings and special events with the participating galleries, and with the city's arts institutions.
Once again, for the third consecutive year, Unicredit Private Banking and Unicredit are acting as partners for the event; they are again taking the opportunity to support the promotion of contemporary art and aid the development of the Turin area as a place of cultural excellence and a hive of cutting edge activity.
