Euromoney’s Central and Eastern European Forum 2021 took place virtually from 12th to 14th January.  The event attracted more than 1,000 participants – including Ministers of Finance, policymakers, financial institutions, issuers, investors and intermediaries interested in the CEE Region – to debate and discuss economic future of the region.

As one of the lead sponsors, UniCredit featured on several panels and workshops.

Niccolò Ubertalli, Co-CEO of Commercial Banking CEE, was one of the key speakers at the panel “Redesigning the banking system for the post-Covid reality.” Niccolò talked about the impact of the pandemic on local economies, the important role of banks in providing prompt support  to companies and individuals, and how this unprecedent period has driven the region’s banks to speed up their digital transformation.

"As one of the largest lenders in CEE region, we set up clear business priorities focusing on clients, staying in close contact with them, and finding solutions most suitable for their needs. All CEE Banks, although with different timing and magnitude, have accelerated their digital transformation by focusing on remote banking capabilities and digital channels. We significantly enhanced digital dialogue to cover the ‘proximity gap’ and will continue in this direction”

Fabio Fornaroli, Head of CEE CIB, moderated a workshop called “Covid Pandemic: UniCredit is Part of the Solution in CEE.” The event saw representatives of EIF, the Ministry of Finance of Republic of Serbia and a corporate client of UniCredit in Serbia, debate the response to Covid-19 from various international financial institutions and local development banks.

On the last day of Forum, Fabio Fornaroli participated on the panel called “The real economy: how have corporate treasuries adapted to the shock?” to talk about how corporate financing has changed under the pressure of Covid-19, supply chain finance and other alternatives to the capital markets, and how corporates in CEE have relied on banks during the crisis.

Alongside the Euromoney CEE Forum, during the same week UniCredit has also been a protagonist of the 22nd Emerging Europe Winter Conference. Follow One UniCredit in the coming days for a dedicated in-depth analysis.
