World AIDS Day: UniCredit at the forefront for a more inclusive and equitable society
Wednesday 01 December 2021
The 2021 World AIDS Day theme is “End inequalities. End AIDS. End pandemics”. The Day highlights the urgent need to end the inequalities that drive AIDS and other pandemics around the world that thrive on inequalities.
Globally, there are an estimated 38 million people living with HIV. Despite the virus only being identified in 1984, more than 35 million people have died of HIV or AIDS related illnesses, making it one of the most destructive pandemics in history.
By supporting World AIDS Day, UniCredit confirms its commitment to creating and maintaining a safe, positive, healthy, and respectful environment where there is no place for stigma or discrimination.
For more than ten years now, UniCredit has been investing in the promotion of equal opportunities, following the principles of the Joint Declaration on "Equal Opportunities and Non-Discrimination" signed as early as 2009. Every day, we at UniCredit are committed to fostering an inclusive environment that is free from physical and mental barriers, for the benefit of our people, customers and communities in which we operate.
With this is mind, we have introduced dedicated initiatives, such as inclusive leadership programmes and training on unconscious bias and tailor-made solutions to offer psychological support through the "Ask for help" service.
At UniCredit, diversity, equity and inclusion are strategic assets for our business, growth and innovation and are an integral part of the corporate culture. We believe that inclusion can help us leverage our differences and use them to solve problems better, become more innovative and perform more effectively. It also contributes to an overall improvement of the working environment, with a positive impact on wellbeing, commitment and engagement of our people.
Let's remain committed to a diverse, equitable and inclusive workplace!
