Environmental, social and governance values are at the core of UniCredit’s strategy and vision. Our tagline “Banking that matters” also means embracing sustainability in all of the Group’s activities, something we endeavour to incorporate in our everyday actions.

To strengthen our efforts in this area, Roberta Marracino will join UniCredit as Head of Group ESG Strategy & Impact Banking on 1st July 2020. She will focus on strategy definition and the dedicated execution of the Group’s environmental, social and governance initiatives and commitments.

In addition, Roberta Marracino will oversee the Group’s Social Impact Bank and coordinate the UniCredit Foundation’s activities. She will be a member of the UniCredit Executive Management Committee (EMC) and report to Wouter Devriendt, Head of Finance & Controls.

Wouter Devriendt said: “We are delighted to welcome Roberta to UniCredit. Roberta brings valuable experience to the Group and the EMC. She has been given a strong mandate to lead and develop our ESG activities across UniCredit’s unique pan-European network. Our initiatives are driven by what is important to our Group: ethics and respect. Going forward, the team under the leadership of Roberta will have a key role developing and driving our ESG commitments and further accelerate Group wide implementation.”

Roberta joins UniCredit from Zurich Insurance, where she headed Business Innovation & Market Management in Italy. Before that, she held senior roles at SACE and McKinsey & Company.

From 1st July, the Group Institutional Affairs & Sustainability unit will be split into two distinct areas of competence. Roberta will lead the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Strategy & Impact Banking unit. Maurizio Beretta, who successfully developed UniCredit’s ESG and the Social Impact Banking initiatives in recent years, will continue as President of the UniCredit Foundation and Head of Group Institutional Affairs and will remain a member of the UniCredit Executive Management Committee.
