Running for success across our countries
Friday 07 June 2024
Today we look back on several running races our colleagues across Italy, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Serbia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Romania, took part in. They ran for various important charity causes demonstrating how we concretely act to support the communities in which we operate.
As we cross the finishing lines, we also draw parallels to our record-breaking performance as a team.
BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA
The traditional Mostar half-marathon in March, alongside the Humanitarian Race "Step for the Children," brought together over 1,200 runners from 50+ countries.
UniCredit Bank Bosnia and Herzegovina Mostar colleagues participated in the half-marathon and the shorter distances. The routes, crossing six city bridges and passing near the UNESCO-protected Old Bridge, showcased Mostar's charm. This year’s focus was on women, emphasising their strength and promoting their participation in the running movement for better physical and mental health. The 4 km charity race supported the furnishing of a Children's Disease Clinic.
CZECH REPUBLIC AND SLOVAKIA
UniCredit Bank CZ&SK is unique with the fact that its running team has the largest number of the bank's board members - 4 colleagues.
Many other colleagues and their families joined the competitions. Our bank has a track record as sponsor of the Prague Marathon, which this year was in May, with participation of almost 9 000 runners from all over the world.
Our bank also joins a traditional relay run around Filadelfie HQ in Prague which colleagues take part induring spring and autumn.
SERBIA
The 37th Belgrade Marathon was held in April, where 50 colleagues from UniCredit Bank in Serbia, as well as their family members, ran various races as a part of the Belhospice Association team. On that occasion, the Bank allocated EUR 5,000 to support the Belhospice Association, a specialised charitable organization that provides palliative care to adult patients with fatal diseases and children with life-threatening illnesses and conditions.
Our team, which "Ran for the dignity of oncology patients" represented our entire bank and our values of Integrity, Ownership and Caring, promoting team spirit, setting ambitious goals and overcoming obstacles, both on the track, as well as in everyday life.
CROATIA
The Zaba Running team opened the 2024 running season intensively across Croatia, participating in the Split Marathon, the Zagreb Spring Half Marathon, the Rijeka and Osijek Half Marathons, and the B2Run race in Split.
In addition, Zaba's runners and volunteers joined a humanitarian race on World Ovarian Cancer Day ”You are not alone“ and sent a strong message to all women affected that they can always count on the support of Zaba people.
BULGARIA
As every year, at the beginning of June, UniCredit Bulbank employees and their children supported the Run2Gether Charity Marathon in Bulgaria, that aims to promote the inclusion of people with disabilities.
This charity run aims to involve and motivate people with different abilities. Everyone who signs up is willing to partner with another who needs their help to finish and outdo themselves!
ROMANIA
UniCredit Bank in Romania is a longstanding sponsor of the Color Run. This year in Bucharest over 10,000 lovers of fitness and color were lined at the starting line, among them also our colleagues and their families. Runs are also organised in many other cities in Romania.
ITALY
The Milano Marathon is an important sporting event, organised in collaboration with Relay Marathon 2024, a charitable race of which this year UniCredit was Title Sponsor. As part of the program we also organised an internal initiative UniCredit Relay Marathon, a relay race offering colleagues to run one of the four distances (13, 9, 6 or 14 kilometers). The race was linked to the Milano Charity Programme, one of the most important sport-related solidarity programs in terms of size, participation, and fundraising. As many as 320 colleagues, together with family and friends, enthusiastically joined this important sporting event.
SLOVENIA
The Istrian Marathon every year offers a unique experience, a running journey with a stunning seascape in Slovenia, as runners cross old squares, lush vineyards, and olive groves. Colleagues from UniCredit Bank in Slovenia took part in some of the distances in what is considered the most popular running event in the country.
At UniCredit we believe in the values of sport and solidarity, as means of inclusion and personal growth. These initiatives are part of a series of tangible actions carried out to support the communities in which we operate.
