Our commitment to financial inclusion

We live today in a multicultural society. As our communities change, we have made a commitment to facilitate the social and financial inclusion of all people by helping to improve their basic knowledge and skills.


Since 2009, we have run financial education programs designed to respond to the effective needs of the community. Training modules are multi-disciplinary in approach and targeted at specific groups of the population, including young people, senior citizens, families, immigrants and cultural mediators, non-profit organizations, and SMEs. The programs are provided in partnership with national and international experts, institutions and organizations.


UniCredit has set up programs in Italy, Germany, and Austria, and pilot projects are now in place in Central and Eastern European countries. The education programs address topics such as general financial concepts, personal financial planning and retirement planning, savings and investments, and banking products and instruments, with a special focus on new digital technologies.

In Italy, for example, to raise awareness of the importance of savings and to foster an entrepreneurial spirit in young people, a three-year program has been developed in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Research as part of the "Alternating School & Work" initiative.


For us, inclusion also means supporting the development of talent and skills by offering opportunities for growth for new forms of entrepreneurship. 3We are proud of our role in promoting creative new ideas as a sponsor of various competitions for business ideas, especially at the crucial moment of transforming a good business plan into a new start-up, both in the for-profit and non-profit sectors. Fostering talent also means encouraging gender balance, which is why we are committed to promoting female entrepreneurship.


At UniCredit, we support social enterprises, which bring together public and private players and employ private-sector strategies to offer innovative contributions to tackling social problems such as the ageing population and rising unemployment, especially among young people. Social Impact Banking is our way of helping organizations dedicated to tackling social problems, by building their confidence, investing in talent and merit, and giving them access to expertise, credit, and networks.


We also invest in young people and help them develop their skills through the UniCredit & Universities Foundation and we support the growth of emerging artists, in the awareness that the competitiveness of a nation is built on all expressions of talent and the realization of personal goals.


As growing numbers of people are faced with hardship due to economic recession, we have developed specific products and services to support low-income households and individuals in their specific needs, as well as tailored solutions for the immigrant population.


1.  In Bulgaria and Romania, UniCredit promotes financial inclusion, especially for young people, through a range of initiatives designed to meet the specific needs of the local population.


 2. In Bulgaria, together with UniCredit Bulbank DD, we have created an Academic League to get young people aged 18 to 25 involved in real business projects, with the mentorship of bank employees.


3. We offer special financial literacy programs and tools to support our senior citizen customers and we are committed to removing potential barriers for people with disabilities.


4. Thanks to the In-formati program, during 2014 over 26,000 people took part in around 850 training sessions conducted by 269 volunteers from among our employees. With as many as 89,000 hours of training delivered, the UniCredit Financial Literacy Index, which measures knowledge levels before and after the courses, rose on average by 19%.

UniGens is a volunteer association set up by UniCredit, involving current and former Group employees



Alongside Group-wide initiatives, promoted primarily by the UniCredit Foundation, all our banks pursue programs designed to meet the specific needs of local communities.
