Sustainability indexes include selected metrics based on social and environmental criteria, as well as financial parameters. Specialized rating agencies evaluate and select securities companies on the base of information collected by public sources, as well as surveys submitted to companies and listening to media and other key stakeholders. Inclusion in these indexes is critical for companies seeking to strengthen their reputation. Moreover, investors are increasingly attracted to sustainable businesses and company’s with lower risk profiles and strong prospects for long-term growth.

The identification of sustainability leaders for the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes (DJSI) is based on the annual Corporate Sustainability Assessment carried out by SAM, primary sustainability rating provider.
The results of SAM comprehensive assessment provides an in-depth analysis of economic, environmental and social criteria, such as corporate governance, water-related risks and stakeholder relations, with a special focus on industry-specific risks and opportunities.
According to 2011 Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes review UniCredit has been selected as index component in Dow Jones World and Europe, with a total score of 78 out of 100.

According to FTSE4Good Semi-Annual Review, UniCredit has satisfied the requirements to be confirmed again as a constituent of the FTSE4Good Index Series, starting from September 2011.
Created by FTSE Group, FTSE4Good is an equity index series that is designed to facilitate investment in companies leaders in sustainability. Companies in the FTSE4Good Index Series have met stringent social and environmental criteria, and are positioned to capitalize on the benefits of responsible business practice.

Ethibel Sustainability Index’s Excellence Global Register
At the end of 2011 UniCredit has been reconfirmed for inclusion in the Ethibel EXCELLENCE Investment Register. These Investment Register forms the basis for the European Collective Quality label ‘ETHIBEL EXCELLENCE’, which is awarded to investment funds and financial products only.
Forum ETHIBEL provides specific instruments and labels to support investors in their search for SRI products. Forum ETHIBEL reviews companies worldwide on their economic, social and environmental performance. In accordance with the ASPI Eurozone® guidelines, UniCredit is also included in ASPI index starting from September 2011, following the annual review of the index composition by Vigeo. The ASPI Eurozone® index selects the 120 best rated companies in the Eurozone on the basis of Vigeo’s CSR rating methodology. Our rating criteria relate to the protection of the environment, the respect of human rights, the management of human resources, community involvement, responsible business behavior and corporate governance.

UniCredit was validated with the Prime Status in the oekom research annual review. Our Prime Status was earned because of our position among the world’s best financial companies and our fulfillment of the best-in-class requirements for the financial industry. The assessment of the environmental and social performance of a company as a part of the oekom Corporate Rating is carried out according over 100 social and environmental criteria, selected specifically for each industry. The results provide a ranking of the companies examined within an industry, from which the leaders are awarded with the ‘prime status’ label.
