Indirect impacts

Indirect impacts

Our “indirect impacts” include greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions related to UniCredit’s financing operations, such as loans and other financial services that we provide.  For example, our private and corporate customers can use our financing for activities that negatively impact the environment, resulting in CO2 and other GHG emissions.

Indirect environmental impacts can also relate to our purchasing practices and the activities of our suppliers.  We seek to consider this when stipulating the key characteristics of the products and services we wish to acquire.  For more information, please visit Suppliers' section.

Moreover, we comply with international standards when monitoring the social and environmental risks related to our investment and financing activities.  For more information, please visit Responsible investing's section.

UniCredit is committed to the ongoing development of responsible lending practices and products that are environmentally sound.  In fact, we provide loans to our retail customers that are designed to encourage energy efficiency and renewable energy production.  More information on this is available in our 2010 UniCredit Sustainability Report (pp. 52 – 54 and 81).

Pioneer Investments is also focused on incorporating environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) into its investment activities and making investment-related ESG information available to its portfolio managers and analysts.  As a result, in 2010 it subscribed to an ESG service provided by Institutional Shareholder Services to access relevant research, analysis, ratings and screening tools.
