Environmental management system

Environmental Statement

Environmental protection and climate change are critical issues that cannot be overlooked from a social, political and economic standpoint.  UniCredit stands firmly at the forefront in the battle against climate change and has carried out several important initiatives.

We drafted our first Environmental Policy in 2000, and revised it in 2007 following the merger with UniCredit AG (previously HVB) to encompass the new international scope of our Group.

UniCredit’s Environmental Management Systems earned its ISO14001 certification in 2002 and was registered in line with the EU Eco-Management and Audit Scheme guidelines.

Moreover, improvements made to UniCredit’s internal waste management processes – specifically in Austria and Germany – exemplify our good environmental practices.

Others have involved:

  • employing commercial services (brokerage, strategic consulting, hedging concepts and finance)
  • financing renewable energy projects
  • implementing World Bank and International Finance Corporation performance standards in the General Group Credit Policy and the Equator Principles in Project Finance
  • using funds to support environmental technology
  • offering loans for building renovations that will optimize energy use

Several UniCredit entities are using Environmental Management Systems to ensure ongoing improvement of their operations and products, demonstrating our Group’s commitment to sustainable development.
