Music

Music forms one of the cornerstones of our cultural engagement. As with art, we have a strong focus on young talent that is demonstrated by our support for orchestras, international events and young musicians, artists and writers, as well as the study of music.

Europe is the cradle of great music, and UniCredit Group, in partnership with local and national cultural institutions, is helping to keep our heritage alive.
Our emphasis is on encouraging young musical talent and enabling them to shape their tomorrow in the contemporary musical world.

In Germany along with the important Bayreuth and Munich festivals, HVB promotes such regional events as the Rheingau Music Festival, the European Weeks Passau, the Mozart Festival in Würzburg and the Richard Strauss Festival in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Other HVB commitments worth noting are the “International Singing Contest of Italian Opera”, the training program for young people at the Opera Academy of Gut Immling and, for more than 25 years now, the “Jugend kulturell” program.

In Austria, Bank Austria has made a deep-rooted commitment to young people and the arts, reflected by 35 years of continuous cooperation with Jeunesse, the most prominent Austrian institution in the field of concerts for young audiences. In 2006, Bank Austria launched the “Artist of the Year” prize for promising, young Austrian musicians and composers. Together with the Vienna Philharmonic, Bank Austria also established a specialized course for talented, young violinists in Trenta, Slovenia. The city confirmed its role as an elite center of apprenticeship for the best orchestras of the world. Some of the program’s graduates have become members of the Vienna State Opera Orchestra and the Vienna Philharmonic.

In Italy, UniCredit Group promotes, through major orchestras, the dissemination of classical music across a wide audience and supports cross-pollination with the musical languages of the twentieth century—pop, jazz, rock and film music.
For the fifth consecutive year, UniCredit Group has been the major partner of the Filarmonica della Scala in Milan. In addition to supporting the regular concert season, UniCredit Group has funded special performances across Europe conducted by Daniele Gatti, Riccardo Chailly and Myung-Whung Chung. The company also supported the Filarmonica’s first tour of the USA and Canada, conducted by Riccardo Chailly, in October 2007.
We have renewed our support of the Arena di Verona for ten years, benefiting the Festival Lirico and promoting its international performances as well.

We are among the founders in 2003 of the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Twentieth Century of the Teatro Regio of Turin. This important ensemble is committed to contemporary classical music.

The Group is also the major partner of the Teatro Massimo di Palermo: we support this prestigious institution that promotes one of the richest lyric productions in Italy, offering an Opera and Ballet Season and a Symphonic Season, in addition to successful international tours. Since 2008, we have also been supporting the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma: the intense Opera, Ballet and Symphonic Seasons are held on the suggestive stages of the Teatro dell'Opera, the Teatro Nazionale and the Baths of Caracalla.

Finally, the UniCredit Group will serve as the main partner for Teatro alla Scala’s international tours from 2009 to 2013.

Performances in Slovenia, Israel, Germany, Denmark, Japan and France have been planned so far. This partnership is designed to strengthen the company’s commitment to cultural development, with a particular focus on the universal language of music. For this reason, UniCredit Group is proud to support Teatro alla Scala, an emblem of Italian excellence, worldwide.
