Following a series of bold strategic mergers and acquisitions, the art collections of the banks that came together to form UniCredit now constitute one of the finest corporate collections in all of Europe.
Notable for its range and historical breadth, the UniCredit Art Collection spans from prehistoric Mesopotamian artifacts to works by old masters, including Canaletto and Tintoretto. The collection contains around 60,000 artworks and includes modern and classical masters such as Yves Klein, Fernand Léger, Giorgio Morandi, Kurt Schwitters, Giuseppe Maria Crespi, Dosso Dossi, il Guercino, Oskar Kokoschka, as well as leading contemporary artists Christo, Georg Baselitz, Gerhard Richter, Andreas Gursky and Andy Warhol.
Significantly, there are more than 4,000 historical and contemporary photographs in the collection, which we view as a reflection of Europe’s history, heritage and identity.
Our commitment to art extends beyond the simple maintenance of our historical collection and can be seen in our dynamic and evolving collection of works by young artists from the countries in which UniCredit operates, with a particular focus on Central and Eastern Europe.
To this end, acquisitions are made by an international scientific committee chaired by Walter Guadagnini and consisting of Luca Massimo Barbero, Lorand Hegyi and Angelika Nollert.
Our artistic patrimony is a reflection of UniCredit’s European identity, which we are pleased to express through long-term loans to museums and other institutions, partnerships, loans for temporary exhibitions, displays in our branches and offices across Europe, and by curating events that address specific themes and pay homage to prominent figures on the art scene.
Above all, our corporate collection is the perfect expression of the centuries-old tradition of caring deeply about the cultural and artistic expressions of the places in which the banks that combined to form UniCredit operate. To us, this collection is a living asset well worth sharing with the broader public.
