Born in Trento, December 9,1964. Major in Business Administration, Bocconi University, under Professor Claudio Demattè tutorship.


Before joining UniCredit, he had been an investment banker in London with Salomon Brothers and later a strategic consultant in Milan with McKinsey & Co.


He joined UniCredit in May 1997, as Head of Strategy, Planning and Control of Credito Italiano.

 

In October 2000 he was appointed Head of the New Europe Division with the task of developing the leading banking position in Central Eastern Europe, accomplished through the acquisitions of Bank Pekao (Poland), Zagrebacka Banka (Croatia-Bosnia), Bulbank (Bulgaria), KocBank (50%, Turkey), Zivnostenska Banka (Czech republic), Demir Bank (Romania), Polnobanka (Slovakia).

 

In 2003 he became Head of Retail and CEO of UniCredit Banca. In July 2007 he was appointed Deputy CEO of the UniCredit group.


In 2009, following the new group governance model, based on Strategic Business Areas (“SBA“), he took on the Retail SBA, managing the retail networks (households and small businesses branches) in Italy, Germany, Austria e Poland; the group asset gathering e the household financing businesses.

 

Effective 1st November 2010, he has been appointed General Manager with responsibility for the Family & SME, Private Banking and Central Eastern Europe Strategic Business Area.


He currently serves as member of the Supervisory Boards of UniCredit Bank Austria, Bank Pekao (Poland), and of UniCredit Bank Russia.

 

He is a member of the Executive Committee of the Italian Banking Association (ABI), where he chairs the Communication Committee.

 

Since 2009 he is Chairman of EFMA, the European Financial Management Association in Paris.

 

He serves in the advisory board of SDA Bocconi, Milan and of Alma School, Bologna.
