Carmine Lamanda

Carmine Lamanda was born in Salerno on 2nd June, 1941.

 

He holds a summa cum laude Law Degree from the University of Perugia, where he is Assistant Professor of Private and Commercial Law.

 

In July 1968, he joined the Bank of Italy and in 1970 he was attached to the Bank of Italy’s Head Office in Rome where he worked closely with Governor of the Bank of Italy, Mr Guido Carli on banking supervision assignments. He remained in the same position under the next Governor, Mr Paolo Baffi. Under Governor Mr Carlo Azeglio Ciampi, Mr Lamanda was assigned the task of redesigning lending rules based on the experience he had earned in bank auditing.

 

Mr Lamanda was the architect of the reform of public banks working in close collaboration with the Treasury Minister, Mr Giuliano Amato, and then, of the Consolidated Banking Act of 1993, which was presented before the Government by Governor of the Bank of Italy, Mr Antonio Fazio, and signed by the Prime Minister, Mr Ciampi. As a member of staff of the Bank of Italy’s Supervisory Office he was involved in major plans to redesign the banking industry.

 

In 1994, he was seconded to the Ministry of the Treasury, headed by Mr Lamberto Dini, and was appointed Head Officer of Mr Dini's cabinet; in that position, he worked with Mr Mario Draghi on the reform of the financial markets and corporate governance, under the authority conferred to the Government by the Italian Parliament.

 

In 1996, with the Governor, Mr Fazio, he worked on issues relating to reducing the banks’ operating costs.

 

In 1997, Mr Lamanda moved to the private sector and joined Banca di Roma where he was appointed officer in charge of Capitalia Group strategy and of cost restructuring. Along with Mr Maurizio Sella, Chairman of The Italian Banking Association (ABI) and Mr Alessandro Profumo, Mr Lamanda worked on the 1997 agreement between the unions and the banks, which fostered restructuring in the banking system as a whole.

 

From 2003 he was the General Manager of Capitalia Group.

 

Mr Carmine Lamanda is a member of the UniCredit Group Management Committee and is in charge of Institutional and Regulatory Strategic Advisory in the Group with the title of Senior Executive Vice President. In this role he is in charge of relationships between UniCredit Group and authorities and stakeholders. His remit encompasses International Organisations, the European Union and the national authorities of the 23 countries where the Group is among the market leaders (in the region from Italy to Kazakhstan).
